'The tour visits the Tin Soldier Museum at Kulmbach, the National Army Museum, the Wellington Memorial and St Paul’s Cathedral in London, and the Bavarian Army Museum at Ingolstadt, with its relics of the Thirty Years War and of conflicts with the Ottoman Empire. Musically, the tour brings Beethoven’s musical celebration of Wellington’s victorious campaign in Spain, Liszt’s Battle of the Huns and a Georgian war march by Ippolitov-Ivanov. The tour ends with two military works by Rimsky-Korsakov, 'King Dodon on the Battlefield', from his last opera, The Golden Cockerel, and the 'Massacre at Kerzhenets' from The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh'.(Running time approx. 53'55')

'Starting from the great Cathedral of Chartres, our tour takes us to Brittany and Normandy in Northern France, and to Franche Comté and Burgundy. Many of the scenes chosen match closely the music of Fauré and in particular that of his Requiem, with a wide range of corresponding images, from the calvaries of Brittany to the startling architecture of Le Corbusier in his church of Notre Dame du Haut at Ronchamp, and from The Last Judgement by Roger van der Weyden in Beaune to the tapestries of Jean Lurçat at Angers. The music chosen for this tour of France is by Gabriel Fauré. It includes his Requiem, the evocative Pavane, his Sicilienne, probably originally intended as part of incidental music for Moliere's Le bourgeois gentilhomme, and the Berceuse'. ''1000 Masterpieces from the Great Museums of the World' is one of the most successful TV series about art. The original, with improved image quality, takes us on a fascinating journey through the history of art. Comprehensively illustrated and compellingly presented – the well-known authors of ten short art surveys provide a full introduction to the masterpieces of painting. Great artists of various epochs were fascinated by dramas, myths and legends. Masters such as Millais, van Dyck, Massys or von Stuck developed their own unique interpretations of themes like passion, courage, tragedy or fate – and these have retained their magical allure right down to the present day. John Everett Millais: Ophelia [1851/52], Johann Heinrich Füssli: Titania and Bottom [1790], Niklaus Manuel Deutsch: Pyramus and Thisbe [1520], Franz von Stuck: Salome [1906], Jan Massys: Flora [1559], Fernand Khnopff: The Caresses, [1896], Paul Delvaux: Pygmalion [1939], Lucas Cranach the Elder: Venus and Cupid [1509], Mikhail Vrubel: Six-Winged Seraph [1904], Anthonis van Dyck: Samson and Delilah [1630]' (Reiner E. Moritz directs. Total running time approx. 100')

'Dan Dailey and Gale Sherwood star in this treasure from the golden age of live television. Paris in the Springtime is an original musical produced by Max Liebman’s creative team. As late as December 24, 1955, The Cat and the Fiddle [a 1931 Kern-Harbach musical] was announced for the live telecast of January 21, 1956. However, a copyright issue arose suddenly and another musical had to be found — or invented. In short order, Liebman’s script writers William Friedberg and Neil Simon came up with a story of an acting troupe seeking artistic acclaim in Paris. Under the musical direction of Irwin Kostal [who would later create orchestrations for such legendary shows as West Side Story and The Music Man], the score was assembled from the songbooks of Gershwin, Rodgers, Porter, Arlen, Styne, and more. The result is a delightfully satisfying and varied show that brilliantly showcases the talents of the sparkling cast of film, theatre, and cabaret greats: Dailey, Sherwood, Helen Gallagher, Jack Whiting, Carleton Carpenter, and Geneviève. An historical footnote: the Arlen-Harburg classic 'Down With Love' is here sung by Jack Whiting, who introduced the song on Broadway in 1937, in the show 'Hooray for What!' '. (Black and white.
