A look at the art of two legendary dancers. This live 1988 performance is in two parts. First, the premiere performance of Donald Saddler’s 'The Rehearsal', a thirty-minute dance piece created for Gregory and Bujones in which the two dancers reminisce about their careers and perform scenes from some of their greatest triumphs. The second half is a fully-staged performance of Act III ['The Wedding'] from Delibes' Coppélia, as choreographed and staged by Roni Mahler [after Arthur Saint-Leon], conducted by Alan Barker and recorded on 10/2/88 at City Center, Manhattan. In addition, the DVD features a bonus interview with Cynthia Gregory from the series 'Words on Dance'. (Color. Total running time approx. 99')

A ballet by Jose Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu performed in 2010 at the Theatre National de Chaillot. 'The story of Orpheus and Eurydice as a modern heroic epic: it's fast, exhilarating, and full of surprises. Nine dancers and seven singers and instrumentalists dance to the sound of bush drums in front of a lavishly-designed backdrop befitting a royal son; classical singing merges with pop music; hip-hop and break-dance meet orchestral music. Music by Tchaikovsky, Yvan Talbot, Claudio Monteverdi, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Philip Glass and others'. (Running time approx. 78'. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A BLU-RAY DISC. Gershwin, Pas de Deux [Ballet by Gene Kelly based on the Piano Concerto in F. Choreography by Claude Bessy]. Delibes, Soir de Fete [Ballet created and choreographed by Leo Staats based on Delibes' music arranged by Eric Vu-An]. (Ballet Nice Mediterranee and Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice/ David Garforth. 'This outstanding DVD release contains two magnificent, but rarely performed ballets: Gene Kellys Pas De Dieux, and Leo Staats Soir de Fete. Pas De Dieux tells the myth of Eros and Aphrodite who come to earth and land on the beach. The god and goddess seduce a lifeguard and his fiancée and enjoy the pleasures of their love. Just as the couples are dancing with their new suitor, Zeus comes to retrieve his wife and the deities ascend to Olympus, leaving the humans alone to their earthly loves. Pas De Dieux carefully follows George Gershwins Concerto in F. The ballet earned Kelly the Chevalier of the Legion d'honneur from the French Government. Leo Staats Soire de Fete was choreographed in 1925. The work is especially notable for its remarkable use of the male dancer, who is too frequently overshadowed by his female companion. This ballet includes the males moving freely alongside their female counterparts'. Recorded 12/2014. Includes and interview with Claude Bessy. Total playing time approx. 81')

'In 1999 Sasha Waltz started working on her three-piece choreographic cycle about the human body. In 'Korper', following up this extraordinary research, she investigates the anatomy and the physical appearance of the human being, relating her dancers‘ bodies to architecture, science, and history, searching for the origin of life, of Eros, and of sensibility. 'noBody' asks about the metaphysical existence of humanity. PART III 'noBody' questions the metaphysical existence of humanity. It addresses the absence of the body, and confronts us with feelings that our own realization of being mortal awakes in us. Without a body, what makes us human? In 'noBody' the choreographer, accompanied by twenty-five dancers, faces the challenge of rendering the non-physical visible by using the physical body itself. 'noBody' is co-produced by the Festival d’Avignon. In July 2002, the piece was performed eight times at Cour d’Honneur, Pope Palace. Its unique historical setting, together with the Mendelsohnian architecture of the Schaubuhne, was a huge influence during the development of this production'. (Includes an eight minute bonus.
