Recorded at his home studio in 1986, 'No End' illuminates hitherto undocumented aspects of Keith Jarrett's music. He is heard here on electric guitars, electric bass, drums and percussion, overdubbing tribal dances of his own devising. 'Somehow, something happened during these days in the 80's that won't ever be repeated', he writes in his liner notes. There was really, to my knowledge, no forethought or composition in the typical sense going on; just a feeling or a rhythmic idea or a bass line concept or melody. None of this was written down'. Keith Jarrett, electric guitars, Fender bass, drums, tablas, percussion, recorder and piano.

The trio of banjo player Bill Crofut, electric bassist and bass trombonist Chris Brubeck, and guitarist Joel Brown combine elements of folk, jazz, rock, and a few other genres. The jazz highlights include the vocal version of Dave Brubeck’s ‘Unsquare Dance’ with lyrics by Chris as well as an instrumental of his father’s hit ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’, boogie-woogie pianist Jimmy Yancey’s ‘How Long Blues’ and Chris Brubeck’s overdubbed piano and bass trombone with Crofut’s vocal on ‘Black And Blue’. There are also interpretations of works by Bach, rags by James Scott and Scott Joplin, and ‘The Ivy’, a poem by Robert Penn Warren set to music by Crofut. (Total time: 53’12’)
