'This set includes nine CDs of material from live concerts that formed an integral part of Callas’s public career alongside her stage performances. In them she sang not only scenes and arias from her stage repertoire, but other pieces as well, including items by French composers such as Delibes, Charpentier and Massenet, that she never sang on stage. These recital performances are an invaluable addition to Callas’s recorded legacy and provide a unique insight into this great artist in the concert hall performing in front of an audience. The programme begins with extracts from concerts given in Rome in 1952 and San Remo in 1954 and broadcast by RAI in their famous and long-established Grandi Concerti Martini e Rossi series, and continues up to a triumphant concert given in Paris in 1963. It concludes with an extract from a private rehearsal in 1976 when Callas was preparing to make a comeback that never eventuated. As a bonus, there is an extra CD containing an interview in English that Callas gave with the American commentator Edward Downes in December 1967 and January 1968 in New York'. (Conductors: Oliviero de Fabritiis, Georges Pretre, John Pritchard, Nicola Rescigno, Malcolm Sargent, Alfredo Simonetto, Jeffrey Tate and Antonino Votto. Total time: 585'44')

The first CD in this 6-disc set, Classic Tango, is a collection of performances by the original tango orchestras of Jose Basso, Anibal Troilo, Francisco Canaro and others of the most popular tangos including La cumparsita, Adiós muchachos and Mi Buenos Aires querido. The second CD, The Piazzolla Tango, presents a group of tangos written in the original dance style by Astor Piazzolla and performed by Piazzolla himself, as well as other famous exponents of the tango such as Raul Garello, Carlos García and Leopoldo Federico. On disc 3, Piazzolla -- The Classic Way, included are some of Piazzolla's original tangos specially arranged for performance by classical musicians, as well as some of Piazzolla's later tango-inspired classical works, played by the Artemis Quartet, the Eroica Trio, the Orchestra of the Teatro Colon, the Ahn Trio, Emmanuel Pahud [principal, Berlin Philharmonic] with Manuel Barrueco, and the Twelve Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. Disc 4, Tango Sensations, is a recording of a live concert of classical works by Piazzolla, Arolas, Cobian and other composers in which the Alban Berg Quartet is joined by the bandoneon player Per Arne Glorvigen and Alois Posch on the doublebass. The famous composer and performer of Argentinian tangos Carlos Gardel [1890-1935] was born in Toulouse as Charles-Romulad Gardes before his unmarried mother took him as a baby to Buenos Aires where he became Carlos Gardel. Disc 5 is a collection of his best-known works performed by the Orchestre National du Capitol de Toulouse in arrangements by Raúl Garello, who also plays the bandoneon with the orchestra. Disc 6, Tango del Diabolo, is a collection of tango-inspired works by Piazzolla and pieces by other modern composers extending the Latin-American rhythmic influence even further, performed by the Quintet Soledad.
